Browser extension
Poise for Chrome and Firefox
Writing help in Gmail and on the web, and coaching from the captions of Meet, Teams and Zoom calls in your browser.
Install it by hand
Poise is not in the Chrome Web Store yet, so you add it yourself, which takes about a minute.
Sign in to downloadThe download needs your account: you come back here once you are signed in, and it starts.
The steps
- Sign in and download the extension. It comes as a .zip file.
- Unzip it into a folder you will keep: Chrome loads it from there.
- Open chrome://extensions in Chrome.
- Turn on Developer mode, at the top right.
- Choose Load unpacked, and pick the folder.
Afterwards
What Chrome shows
Poise appears in the list on chrome://extensions, where Developer mode stays on. Pin it from the extensions menu, the puzzle piece in the toolbar, so its button stays in view.
Updates
How updates work
An extension added by hand does not update itself. When a newer version is out, its popup says so: download it here again, unzip it into the same folder, and press the reload arrow on Poise in chrome://extensions.
Poise for Firefox
The same extension, built for Firefox: the spelling and grammar marks, the reply button in Gmail and Outlook, coaching on Meet, Teams and Zoom calls, and turning it off for a site. It is not on Firefox Add-ons yet and not signed, so Firefox keeps it until it closes.
Sign in to download for Firefox- Sign in and download the Firefox file. It comes as a .xpi file: keep it.
- Open about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox in Firefox.
- Choose Load Temporary Add-on, and pick the .xpi file.
- Firefox removes it when it closes, so after a restart do steps 2 and 3 again.
In Firefox, call coaching reads the call's captions, so turn captions on in the call. Capture audio and listening through the microphone need Chrome. If the Poise button does not appear on a site, open about:addons, choose Poise, and on Permissions allow it on all websites.
